Blackboard Building Blocks

Blackboard functionality can be extended in a number of ways with the addition of building blocks. The FHSU Blackboard instance already uses a number of these extensions. You can see them under the Tools tab in your Blackboard site.

One advantage of using building blocks is that you can introduce non-native features into the Blackboard environment. VoiceThread is an example of a widely used building block at FHSU. Students and Faculty can experience the benefits of VoiceThread without needing to navigate outside of Blackboard. One advantage is that students don’t need to use additional login credentials. Another advantage is that building block developers, such as VoiceThread, can add new features without waiting for a Blackboard upgrade.
