Faculty Mentoring Event

April 12, 2023 @ 3:00 pm 4:30 pm

What is faculty mentoring?
Faculty mentoring usually falls into two realms: functional (teaching, scholarship, service) and psychosocial (relationship-building, networking, understanding university and academic norms).

What are the benefits of mentorship?
For mentors: A sense of accomplishment, renewed interest in work, opportunities to hear new ideas, greater research productivity

For mentees: Easier assimilation into university culture, reduced social isolation, improved relationships across campus, as well as unique benefits for women, BIPOC faculty, veterans, and others sometimes marginalized in academia

FHSU Faculty Mentoring Program Details
At FHSU, the Faculty Mentoring Program offers both paired mentoring relationships and ad hoc mentoring events at which you can meet with mentors and mentees. Support includes discussion questions for these events, with themes such as Student Engagement, Collaborative Learning Methods, Tenure, Promotion, Research, and more.

The program is managed by the Faculty Development Coordinator with support from the Faculty Development Committee and the Teaching Excellence Coordinator. Questions? Email Nicole Frank at nmfrank@fhsu.
