Professional Development Opportunities

Professional Development Days

Held each semester, with nearly 300 faculty and staff in attendance. There is typically a wide verity of topics offered, and both on-ground and videoconference sessions available. Keynotes often feature national experts, while concurrent session presenters are generally University faculty and staff who submit proposals via a CFP process. Meals are typically provided, compliments of the University vice-president.

New Staff and Faculty Orientation

Provided each August, in both on-ground and asynchronous, online formats. Orientation includes necessary onboarding processes, as well as an introduction to university structure and platforms used for organizational work.

Book Talks

Held once each semester and are facilitated in panel format. Panelist are recruited from faculty and staff who have relevant experience and expertise. The faculty development team chooses the titles and have focused on tops such as creating engaging online courses, building relationships with students, scholarly productivity, and interdisciplinary writing.

Mini-Conferences

Held ad hoc in collaboration with other offices in the University, these are themed three-hour afternoon events, often with some access via Zoom. Past themes have included Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC), collaborative learning, and resources for scholarly work. Participants may choose to attend one or two sessions, or an entire event.

Nicole M. Frank

Director of Professional Development

Nicole has worked in college faculty support and development since 2010, and has taught college courses since 2003. She earned her BA in English from FHSU, and her MEd in Adult Education and Training from Colorado State University, and is an EdD candidate at Baker University.

Debby Pfeifer

Faculty Development Training Specialist

Debby has 27 years of classroom experience. She joined the TILT team as Faculty Development Training Specialist in 2024. She earned both her BS in Education and her MS in Education with an ESL emphasis from FHSU.
